Yes 24 and 32 are bit depths, VE and all the filters internally work in RGB32. Usually there should be no problem in this difference, but in your case most probably some of the codecs is being inserted for "decoding" RGB24 and fails to deliver RGB32.

The .txt file in debug mode should be created in the folder where you told the output video file to be. Please check carefully.

Hi.

Thanks for confirmation re those numbers.

I have checked again re the.txt file.  I told VE to save the "converted" file in the same folder as the original; obviously, no converted file is there and nor is there any .txt file there.

Sorry!

Just to make sure I'll do a full search of my PC to ensure it's not been put somewhere "unusual".

Jeff

Update: have searched whole of computer, definitely no .txt file of anything to do with VE!

Too bad.
In this case you can either wait for the new release (few days) and hope it will do better, or if you're ready to spend some time and efforts, we can try to diagnose the case using GraphEditPlus.

Can I choose a combination of the two?!!

Wait for release of next version and if that doesn't resolve my problem, try diagnosing with GraphEditPlus?

Put simply, if the new version is out within a few days and more investigation is needed I should have more time available in a couple of weeks.

Thanks very much for all your advice here.  As I said in a previous post, it looks as if VE is exactly what I need to improve the quality of the VHS to DVD transfers I do; often the VHS originals are old and not of high quality.

Looking forward to trying the new version!

Jeff

Final Update (for now): Since I have a dual-boot system (XP/Win7) and all my attempted use of VE has been under XP, I decided to install VE under Win 7 to see if that was going to be any different in terms of outcome.  Unfortunately it was not; the error message was identical!

If you succeeded opening your video in VirtualDub and if your video is all like the piece you uploaded, then you can improve it a bit by applying deinterlacing and other filters in VirtualDub itself, there's no need for VE. I don't think VE will be able to reveal new details in this kind of blurry video.

OK.  Thanks again.

I will download the new version when it becomes available and at least give it a try!

Thanks for all your help.

Can you please fix the audio sync issue as soon as possible - it is really annoying.

Is there any current workaround?

Workaround is simple: choose "no sound" in VE, then open the AVI in VirtualDub or AviDemux and add your audio stream without recompressing the video.

While VE writes AVI files sync problems will always be possible (due to AVI constant framerate limitations). We'll add WMV output soon, I hope it will do better.

Thanks, unfortunately I don't output to AVI (the file will be too big) - will this work with Xvid?

VE always outputs to AVI.
AVI is a container format which can store video compressed with different codecs. XviD is just one of the codecs available for AVI files.

Thanks, yes, I know - I thought you meant uncompressed AVI which Video Enhancer defaults to.

Ah, yes, this scheme with audio remuxing should work fine when xvid is used for compression.

I also have a problem with using VE. Im using the program itself and im first using 1 SE filter to 1588x724  then using MSU smart deblocking then another SE to 1920x1080 and another MSU Deblock. and I get a 80004005 error. I tried MKV and AVI formats with FFV1 encoded to each format on the same source video and it wouldnt convert. I can play the video in Windows media player and in VE but Preview or trying to convert does not work. I am not sure why... but I get a LOT of errors especially when I try to use multiple filters.

FFV1 is decoded by ffdshow. Some versions of ffdshow had in their settings lists of programs where ffdshow is enabled and where it's not. If your ffdshow is tuned to work in media player and some certain apps but not in others, it won't work in Video Enhancer and you'll get these kinds of errors. Try exploring ffdshow settings and look for such lists.

I dont think FFDSHOW or anything is blocking it. I have the decoder set to the standard library and everything. Nothing is blocking your program from decoding because I can convert with only 1 defaulted sized SR filter. But when I try to use multiple filters (the same ones in last post) then it just gives me an error and wont process it. This would be on your side. It seems that your program does not properly play nice with other filters..... i dont see why it shouldnt really.
