I downloaded the program and have been trying to redo one dvd movie without any success. I've tried different combination's, but I still get an error message after I hit the start button. Either my video codec is wrong or it's my audio. Is there a can"t miss combination that will work?

First you need to find out where exactly you're having trouble - reading/decoding or writing/encoding.
